Through November 2, 2019 only, create a beautiful and festive tribute to your ancestors with these Special Limited Edition Dia de los Muertos Sugar Skull Family Tree Templates!

Here at Family Tree Prints, our goal is to enable you to create modern and custom family tree charts to display in your home that spark enthusiasm, curiousity and love for genealogy and for our ancestors! To that end, we wanted to elevate our own October home decor and were inspired by Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) to create these templates! They'll only be available for purchase this month, so create one that speaks to you and bring it out every year as part of your decorations or leave it up all year round!

How do I get started creating my own Dia de los Muertos Sugar Skull Family Tree Chart?

Step 2: Add your ancestor's names.

You can do this either by importing your ancestry from FamilySearch (if you have a FamilySearch account), via GEDCOM file or by entering them manually.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT NOTE BEFORE YOU DO ANY CUSTOMIZATION:

Once you start customizing, if you refresh your window or click on a template link again, it will reset all of the parameters to the initial template values and you will lose all of your customization (except for your ancestors' names). If you want to pause and return to your work later, all of your updates will be stored in your browser's cookies, so as long as you don't clear your cookies you can return to app.familytreeprints.com (note, without any of the parameters!) at anytime and your work will be saved and waiting for you.

Step 3: Quickly proof read your genealogy.

Whether you have some extremely long names that are getting cut off, there are mistakes in FamilySearch's version of your genealogy (look out for those errant parantheses!) or there's a typo from manually typing, it's worth it to spend a minute or two scanning through your names to make sure they appear as you want them to. This is a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor, so however your names appear in the editor is how they'll appear on the high-res file.

Step 4 (Optional): Customize!

We built these templates to be customizable, so you can go wild! We HIGHLY recommend you watch the video tutorials below (they're just a couple minutes each!) but we've also included high level instructions in text form underneath!

Customizing our Dia de los Muertos Family Tree Templates

Quick highlights:

To change a color:

  1. In the side bar go to Advanced > Color and choose from the drop down whether you want to change a individual cell color, an entire generation of cells' colors or half a generation of cells' colors (alternating) at a time.
  2. Click on the cell (or generation) you want to edit.
  3. Click on either the "Background" or "Text" color swatch and choose a new color.

On the "Integrated" versions of the templates (where part of the skull is made up by the chart):

  • The cell directly next to the left "eye" cell in the second visible generation controls the color of the portion of the skull that is not part of the chart. To change the color of the skull go to Advanced>Color, click on that, then click on the "Background Color" swatch and select your desired color. Do the same with "Text Color".
  • The left "eye" background color controls the color of the 1) flower eyes, 2) the nose, and 3) the teeth. To change the color of the facial features go to Advanced>Color, click on that cell, then click on the "Background Color" swatch and select your desired color. Do the same with "Text Color".
On the non-integrated versions of the templates (where none of the skull is made up by the chart):
  • To change the skull color, in the left side bar first go to Advanced > Generation and select "1st Generation" from the drop-down. Then go to Advanced>Individual, click the color swatch under "Background Color" and select the desired color.
  • To change the eyes, nose and teeth color, in the left side bar first go to Advanced > Generation and select "1st Generation" from the drop-down. Then go to Advanced>Individual, click the color swatch under "Text Color" and select the desired color.

Step 5:  Click "Order Your Chart" in the top right-hand corner of the Editor!
