Family Tree Maker Troubleshooting: My Chart Is Taking Forever To

Once you're clicked the "Order My Chart" button, a window will pop up saying: "Nice job! One moment while we do a little behind-the-scenes magic to get your chart ready for your cart."

There's a progress bar, which should should you the progress the family tree maker is making in preparing your pedigree chart for download. Once it reaches 100% the window will change to show a button saying "View Cart". Your chart shouldn't take any longer than 5 minutes to prepare once you click the "Order My Chart" button.

How long the chart takes to prepare depends primarily on 1) the number of generations your chart has, 2) the internet browser you're using, and 3) how powerful your computer is. If the progress bar stalls, here's a couple things to try:

  • Do a "smart refresh" of the page and try again. This means that BEFORE REFRESHING (this is important!), remove all the "junk" at the end of the URL so the only part remaining is https://app.familytreeprints.com. For example, if your current URL is https://app.familytreeprints.com/?productId=7461591941&productHandle=amathest-circle-family-tree-chart-37&generations=3-5&quantity=1 you would remove every after and including the "?". If you just refresh the page before clearing the junk at the end of the URL, the template will reset to it's original state and remove any formatting changes you've made. Once you've refreshed the page, click Order My Chart again.
  • If you're using a browser other than Google Chrome, switch to Google Chrome, and try again. This is particularly important if you are doing a 9 or 10 generation chart. If you've made a lot of manual adjustments to your chart (you'll have to recreate it when you switch browsers) you can also try decreasing the number of generations displayed in your chart (on the Chart tab in the left sidebar of the family tree maker app) and try again.
